Mr Ramsay is the school’s Online Safety leader. Learning about how to stay safe online is very important. At St. John’s we make sure our pupils are aware of the risks of being online and what they can do to keep themselves safe. We have a set of SMART rules which the children are expected to follow at home and in school to make sure they stay safe online. These rules can be viewed below and should be followed when using all kinds of technology such as mobile phone, games consoles, tablets and home computers.

The school is supported by OneIT, who ensure the school has the latest and most effective internet filtering system and firewalls. Our filtering, Securly, is an Education cloud filtering solution and stops access to illegal, abusive or extremist material. If a child or adult in school attempts to access inappropriate material, the Headteacher/Safeguarding Lead is sent a notification email. The school also uses Impero. This software is installed onto all online devices and records all activity, including websites visited and documents opened, deleted or printed. We work with Northumbria police to monitor our network infrastructure too, they provide tests and inform us of vulnerabilities if there are any.
